This week two women offered me their seats on the subway. So I guess that means that I have begun to show even more then I think I am showing! LOL. Each time I was getting off at the next stop so I didn't accept. Besides, lately my low back has not been hurting -knock on wood. I will save my, "Yes, thank you so much I'd love that seat" for the third trimester.
I also have to go back to Old Navy and get some maternity pants. I bought mostly shirts and 2 dresses last time cause I have been able to wear some of my old pants held together by rubber band to allow more room for my growing belly. But I can't cheat anymore, I must buy some maternity pants today. Besides I have a $10 coupon that expires on Wednesday. I have one pair of maternity jeans that I wear about 3 days a week. I also bought some maternity hosiery from Motherhood Maternity.com. The hose fit well, allow room my for my belly and they come up really high like 3-4 inches above my belly button. I also got some leggings in the same size as the hose but they cut into my sides and are very uncomfortable. It would cost me half of what I paid ($5 on sale) to return them so I just trashed 'em.
Ugh. I looked into child care costs in this area. HOLY CRAP is it expensive. Babysitters/nannies run about $15/ hour. Daycare is less dinero. But most won't accept and infant until they older. 6 months old (I only found one place so far) the rest won;t take them until they are 1-2 years old.
Once the baby arrives, I need to get back to work asap- 6-8 weeks then we will need care 3 days a week, and as the kid gets older even more days because I work the other two days doing paperwork. As the child gets older and does more then sleep most of the day he or she will need lots of stimulation and playtime. I can't push paper and play at the same time. Childcare is my greatest concern at this point.

Get that fish out of my face
That fish stinks. Really bad. I don't care about the Omega oils. Fish stinks and makes me wanna yarf. My pregnant sense of smell will not allow me to eat fish. I take flax seed oil for the Omega's ok? I also don't care what the study in The Lancet says either. I DON"T CARE!!! DO YOU HEAR ME SCIENCE? I DON'T CARE!!! Instead I eat most of the other foods listed here.
And who are these pregnant women they studied that actually eat fish? How the hec do they get it down...and keep it down?? I am not referring to morning sickness here. I am well past that stage. I am just talkin bout a nasty smell that turns the stomach.
Okay, there is one deep sea exception to my turn off. Tempura shrimp. But I can't prepare it myself. Someone else will have to deal with that raw, nasty, fishy smell. By the time it arrives in all its fried tempura goodness, it is not so smelly. And it does not taste fishy either.
Last night Corey and I went out for dinner at Che Ozcar and I ordered the crimini mushroom risotto with quail. Since I never have eaten quail before I thought I'd give it a try even though I still really don't want to eat much meat. But quail is small. While we were eating our Ft. Green salads the women at the table to our left were served salmon. BLECH. The stench wafted its way over to me. I wanted to move to a stank free table, but a room scanned proved disappointing, there were no other tables available. Damn.
My seat was a bench seat and I discovered that if I sat aaaaall the way back I could avoid the offensive smell and was able to finish my salad. Then as our entrees arrived at the table, the table to my right were served salmon. AHHHHHHHHHH! I was surrounded!! What's a pregnant lady to do?? Was there no escape? No, there wasn't. I just had to lean back. Lean back. (Sorry, that was sooo 2005).
Anyway, so I get my plate with the quail, butterfly cut, lying on top of my risotto. The quail looked like a little cooked person with its head hands and feet lopped off and splayed over the risotto. But I tasted it anyway cause I never tasted it before. It was ok. And yes, it tasted like chicken. But, I could not eat any more of that poor little hen. I ate the risotto (it wasn't very good, not creamy and for a mushroom dish not very flavorful) and then covered the quail with my napkin so I didn't have to look at it's tiny headless body.
Then I had to pee. I wait for in front of the door marked Madame. And I wait and wait. I knock. I wait. I go into the door marked Monsieur. I am pregnant OK? I HAD TO PEE! When I exited the bathroom, a real monsieur was waiting outside. I looked at him and said, " Sorry but some Madame was taking too Damn long". He laughed.
I tested her door on the way back to my table. She was STILL in there. Maybe she ate the fish.

The Pregnant Lady/New Mom Club
I have gained membership into the Pregnant Lady Club and I didn't even apply. As a member of this club, you are also accepted as a future member of the New Mom Club. These new moms LOVE to voluntarily tell you how much they hate breast feeding, how much I WILL HATE IT TOO. They love to tell me how I will stop breast feeding in no time and stick the kid on some artificial freaking drink even though it is so expensive. They love to tell me all kinds of other things.
These are women who think I want to hear them whine, I have known for all of 2 minutes. Realtors. Realtors who open their own Pandora's box of motherly misery when Corey and I tell them we are looking for a 2 bedroom or bigger because we are expecting. We want to be nice because these ladies might eventually present our offer to an owner but inside I am screaming "SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE. You don't know me, and I don't know how I will be breast feeding or whatever else they want to complain about but for Christ-sake let me at least feel like I can try, like my mom did and MANY of my friends do or did. Just because you couldn't hack it don't put that energy on me"!!!

Our Frankenbaby
Corey and I went for the second ultrasound this week. We went for an "ultrascreen" measures the nucal fold in order to screen for the possibilty of Down's Syndrome. This screen is commonly given to "older" pregnant moms because the risk of genetic defects becomes significantly higher after the mom turns 34 or 35ish. Anyway, according to medical science I am old.
Our baby's screen didn't show any cause for concern but they took my blood to test a few other things as well. We are not worried about the result.
During the ultrasound we could see that our little baby had grown so big! We could see it's HUGE cranium, just like it's Daddy's big head. That is why we called it Frankenbaby. We could also see it's adorable little hands and arms, eyes, nose and spine. The ultrasound was done externally on my belly. As the technician pushed on my belly she could stimulate the babies movement and it would turn around and move. The Frankenbaby! IT'S ALIVE!!!
That baby was soo cute performing for us, waving at us and stuff. The tech said, "Wow your baby is so playful"!
Which reminds me at our wedding I was coxed by my cousin to dance on top of the DJ's amps so after the wedding Corey's family was talking about how our baby is going to have so much energy that they will be swinging from the chandeliers, but it will have to wait until it's momma comes down off of it first! LOL

Get that meat out of my face.
I have heard that pregnant women get food aversions so when I started to become averse to fish, which I craved in the very beginning of the pregnancy, it made sense. I mean it really stinks. It smells completely gross to me.
But this week I seem to have become averse to *gasp* meat. Yes, I said it, meat. And poultry. And pork. I like the essence o' pork. Or the essence of any of the aforementioned offenders in say a soup, broth or the jous blessing some noodles or beans. But I find myself picking out or pushing aside the meats. This is particularly odd for me, cause anyone who knows me knows, I need to eat meats to feel balanced.
If I don't eat meat I get really cranky and get hungry again soon after I eat. I mean even just the week before I felt like I NEEDED a hamburger daily. I ate cheeseburgers twice that week from GoodBurger. But now I am also paranoid about eating ground beef because of the recent E. Coli scare (see my professional blog for details on the recall of beef www.amazinghealing.com/blog ).
I have been dealing with this OK, eating lots of beans and peanut butter. But I am really hungry and I need to eat lots of food.
Corey and I went grocery shopping today. I asked him to go to the meat section to get my dog some ground turkey because I could already smell the stench from about 5 aisles away. I bought fixins to prepare some homemade hummus, and make gandules (with essence of pork fat AKA bacon) to serve with rice. Oh and bought more nuts. I also bought some garlic and onion marinated tofu which I will put into an eggplant and tomato sauce pasta. And I made a delicious curry lentil soup last night (with essence of chicken AKA broth) which I served up with couscous. Yummy!
If you have any yummy veg recipes send them my way. I'll try them out until I become averse to whatever the ingredients are or I begin craving meat again. Which ever comes first.
