Here's what I am so hot about.
1. Racism Is Alive and Well in the USA. As if we needed more proof.

You can also take action on this issue by signing letters to politicians and donating $$ to the legal defense fund

2. Homophobia Is Alive and Well in the USA. Love thy Gay neighbor, Goddammit! Gotta love them "compassionate" Christians.

Listen to what Barack Obama has to say about The Church's role in determining same sex rights. (So far he is my presidential favorite. But that is subject to change at any time. He needs to realize that gay marriage rights are really what the LGBT community needs- not civil union-they do not allow the same rights as marriage).
You can take action on this issue by not being homophobic, or standing for it in our communities also join the HRC.
Let's teach our kids somethin' different- let's teach them love, compassion and equality for all!!

Unfortuntely, none of the viable Democratic candidates favor gay marriage. Politically, it would be a death knell for them. Sadly, the country is, as Richardson pointed out, not ready for gay marriage. I am not sure if thesse candidates are homophobic or just covering their behinds during and election season. One way or the othere, however, it is emblematic of the state of the union.
As far as rascism in this country is concerned, I believe it is alive and well - it's just gone underground (except for those who are blatant about it - most members of my generation). Nevertheless, incidents like those at Jena High School place a glaring light on the outrageous acts of rascists like those who clearly went after the black students and who coddled the white students. The consciousness of the human race, sadly, has a long way to go.
